MY APPROACH

Here is a general overview about me, or check out sections about past, present and future.

My professional technical interests include: emerging & established biotechnologies, “regenerative” farming practices, automating & autonomizing systems inefficiencies, eliminating systems ambiguity, synthetic biology & gene editing potential, optimizing health & nutrition, international affairs & their impacts at the local level, and connecting the dots of complex topics for the non-specialist through extension activities.

Defining traits: Growth mindset. Continuous learner. A dichotomy of farm & city, theory & practice, old & new. A specialized generalist. Calculated risk-taker. I like to ask the questions, “what else,” “what more,” and “what are we missing?” I believe contribution and profit are complementary, not competition. Understanding underlying nuanced detail is crucial for effective long-term strategy. Strong preference for fewer words, more action.

Work style: I value deep-focus and concentration. Dedicated work time & space. Pragmatic collaborations. Educated arguments > emotionally-driven habits. Informed reiteration is key to progression & growth. Trying to stay grounded by keeping beginnings in mind. Appreciation for cross-disciplinary discussions.

DISC

DISC analysis results indicate  a very balanced blend of both Dominant (D) and Cautious (C) traits.
Some descriptive words: Directive, Analytical, Results-oriented, and Logical, indicating more a task-oriented than people-oriented perspective. D/C balance includes both outgoing and reserved traits, with enjoyment found in solving problems and making things happen in a logical way.

Generally, I enjoy finding common ground between seemingly unrelated disciplines for cross-disciplinary win-wins, for example: agriculture & health; biotech & art; ag-tech & lunar/space exploration; molecular biology & weight training. I challenge myself to ask, “is this the best way, or is this the way it’s always been done?” I will challenge you with this too. I try to check my biases which isn’t always easy.

Interests beyond work: Design (convergence of function + aesthetic), especially automotive. I love music, travel & language. I’m less familiar with other arts but I find them interesting too. Philosophy to the mind is like weight-training to the body. Physical exercise & nutrition. Human psychology & space exploration intrigue me due to their infinite complexities inwards & outwards.
